Tessa Thompson is a pen name of the British YA, author of the Afterland Chronicles series, Karen Wrighton. Karen writes children’s picture books as Tessa Thompson so as not to confuse her readers.
Karen was born in a small town in the English county of Staffordshire and began writing and drawing from a young age. She spent 17 years as a teacher before changing her career and becoming an author and illustrator.
Karen, writing as Tessa began what is to be a series of rhyming picture books in 2016. The first of those books, Daisy Sunshine and the Murkins is due for release later in this year (2016). The second rhyming picture book, Go Away Dog is also due for publication later this year. She has also recently published the first of an early reader series – The Dog’s Walk Series, which is based on her own dog, Jinks.
Karen’s first novel was the young adult fantasy ‘Ascension of the Whyte’. It was the first book in the ‘The Afterland Chronicles’ series. The second book, ‘Ryte of Passage’, was published in May 2016 and the third ‘Ice and Fyre’ is due out early 2017. The books are influenced by series such as Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and Harry Potter.
Karen has two daughters and lives in Norfolk, England with her husband, John, their crazy dog Jinks and a very lazy cat called Pippin.
